Attention anyone who’s bought an iPhone, iPad or Mac in the last 12 years outside the U.S.: You may need to pull the plug on your device and exchange the charger.
On Thursday, Apple Inc. AAPL, +2.37% announced that a major recall of more than a decade’s worth of AC wall plug adapters sold in continental Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, South Korea and New Zealand. The problem with the recalled adapters is that the pins could break off in sockets, causing a dozen incidents that resulted in people being shocked, Apple said.
Apple didn’t say how many AC adapters would be included in the recall, but given the time span of the recalled hardware time, millions of them could be affected. The chargers were shipped with computers, phones, tablets and a “Apple World Travel Adapter Kit” between 2003 and 2015, Apple said.
